Writing Trans Genres: Emergent Literatures and Criticism was a conference held at the University of Winnipeg, May 22-24, 2014 that brought together writers, performers, critics, and community members to celebrate and theorize an emerging body of literature by transgender, transsexual, two spirit, and genderqueer writers. 

A follow up conference, Decolonizing and Decriminalizing Trans Genres, was held on February 28, 2015.

Écrire le transgenre: Littératures et critiques émergentes était une conférence pour écrivain.e.s, artistes, critiques, ainsi que des membres de la communauté. La conférence dévelopait de contextes pour la lecture et l’interprétation d’un corpus émergent de littérature par (et à propos) des écrivain.e.s trangenre, transsexuel.le.s, two spirit et genderqueer.

Une deuxième conférence, “Décoloniser et décriminaliser le transgenre,” était organisé le 28 février, 2015.

Writing Trans Genres was generously supported by the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic and International, the Office of the Dean of Arts, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the University of Winnipeg Research Office, and the Departments of Modern Languages & Literatures, Indigenous Studies, Rhetoric, Writing, and Communications, as well as the Global College, all at the University of Winnipeg. The conference was also generously supported by Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) and the Departments of Women’s and Gender Studies and English, Film, and Theatre at the University of Manitoba.
